As temperatures prepare to drop to bone-chilling degrees in the coming days, TheatreLab Dayton and Joui Wine are conjuring fun in the sun as they prepare their Lost in Paradise collaboration Tuesday, Jan. 21 at Joui Wine.

TheatreLab Dayton will provide the tunes and Joui Wine will handle the drinks during the lighthearted evening bound to cure the winter doldrums.

TheatreLab Dayton, formerly known as Dare 2 Defy Productions, is under the guidance of artistic director Mackensie King and executive director Philip Drennen. The company presents the original musical, “Charlie & Doggy: And the Song at the Edge of the World,” at PNC Arts Annex in Dayton, Wednesday through Saturday, Jan. 19 through 22.

Tickets include your first tiki drink and hours of live entertainment. Joui Wine will have an expertly curated menu of tiki classics while TheatreLab company members perform yacht rock and Top 40 classics.

“It’s going to be kind of an immersive event,” said TheatreLab Executive Director Philip Drennen. “It’s not going to be a linear story but we’re doing a lot of numbers inspired by California, Havana and songs overall that make you feel like you’re on the beach.”

Joui Wine is located at 117 E. Third St. in Dayton’s Fire Blocks District (CONTRIBUTED PHOTO).

TheatreLab Dayton, located at 116 N. Jefferson St., is committed to partnerships with fellow downtown Dayton businesses. Last fall the organization staged the rock musical “Lizzie” at Mudlick Tap House.

“We want to continue to keep building partnerships with people and businesses that we love downtown,” Drennen said. “Our home is downtown. We perform downtown as much as we can. We want to also continue to cross-pollinate as far as visibility. I think Joui and (owner) Lauren Gay have a great following but we also want to bring our followers into their space if they haven’t been there yet. And I think Lauren wants to bring her followers into our audiences if they don’t know us. So this is a really great way to collaborate.”

In addition you’re encouraged to come dressed in your favorite Hawaiian shirt, grass skirt, vintage resort wear or beach attire. There will be prizes for best dressed and other contests.
